The Story Behind Fond Memories

Fond Memories – This pattern has been in the works for a LONG time. It started as a watercolor painting of sweet peas in a sketchbook. The name Fond Memories comes from the symbolism behind sweet peas as they can be used to symbolize the remembrance of fond memories of a loved one. The original painting was scanned and brought into Illustrator.  I wanted to keep that painterly quality and not flatten out the work too much. I like the idea of using Fond Memories as a focal point and building out with other patterns like the daily stripe or chunky checkerboard to build up a bold but elegant combination. Currently, Fond Memories is available on Spoonflower in three colorways. I would love to know what is current favorite is and what colorway would you want to see next.

Below you can see the original artwork that was the basis for Fond Memories next to the digital work. That digital piece was the building block that created the entire pattern. Since Fond Memories ended up with so many colors I keep the actual elements very simplistic. I think it feels almost like a block print which I love. This pattern was hard to narrow down colorways. The pattern ended up working in many different colorways and some very funky works that are just so fun. I have included just a few, I would love to here if any of these are favorites or what colorways you want to see next! I am always sampling the next batch and love to be able to expand colorways of customer favorites.
